Let's get real for a minute; a day of selling can sometimes be a cruel and brutal grind.

New clients canceling their order at the last minute, old clients calling up on a Monday afternoon asking, or more likely, demanding that you match the competitor's price, or they're out! Prospects are yelling at you because of something the competition said to them (that is almost assuredly false), and after all that, it's only Tuesday!

You still have the rest of the week to get 101 NOs and 200 calls to hang up on you before you even get started!

If you're stepping into the sales ring, you had better be prepared to face the Beast!
Confidence is key to stand a chance in this ultra-competitive game of sales.

That unshakeable belief in yourself and your abilities in the face of negativity and rejection will set you apart from the rest.

But how do we build ourselves up mentally, physically, and for many spiritually?

While there are many ways to build confidence, one strategy stands out as particularly effective against the rest: exercise.

"Success is a science; if you have the conditions, you get the result." - Oscar Wilde
I love this quote by Oscar Wilde, and it applies to many aspects of your sales career, especially regarding our health.

Not only does exercise have numerous health benefits, but it also has a profound impact on your self-assurance, which can make a world of difference in your sales career.

According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, "The US obesity prevalence was 41.9% in 2017 – March 2020. (NHANES, 2021)".

This is just crazy to think about. When I think about how I want to show up for my prospects and clients, I always want to show up as the best version of myself, mentally and spiritually, including my physical self.

Before you throw stones, saying I said the big guy can't sell, hear me out. Sure, weight may have little impact on your communication skills.

Still, when you've just trudged up five flights of stairs to deliver a presentation in some dusty old office building with no elevator, the sweat dripping off your forehead, huffing and puffing trying to catch your breath, looking like a hot mess, this is when your communication and confidence take a punch to the gut.

I know because I've been there, that was me, and guys, I'm not even that much overweight. But there was a time when my overall physical health was terrible. Situations like that are quite frankly embarrassing, at least for me, it was.

Now what are you going to do about it? Let's get to it and see how exercise can boost your confidence so that you can crush the competition!

1. Weight Control

Maintaining a healthy weight is crucial for confidence.

Regular exercise and a balanced diet is the best way to control or shed excess pounds. You'll feel more confident and ready to take on any sales challenge by achieving a better physical shape.

2. Mood Enhancement

A workout doesn't necessarily mean hitting the gym. Even a brisk walk or a jog can do wonders for your emotional well-being. Exercise stimulates the release of brain chemicals like dopamine and serotonin, which promote a general sense of happiness and reduce stress and anxiety.

A positive mood translates into increased confidence, empowering you to tackle any sales situation easily.

3. Heart Health.

A healthy heart is essential for overall well-being.

Regular exercise lowers the risk of heart-related conditions, such as high blood pressure and heart disease. By improving your cardiovascular health, exercise reduces the strain on your heart, making you feel more energized and confident in your physical abilities.

4. Body Toning and Posture

Being in shape goes beyond weight control.

Exercise helps tone your body and improve your posture, closely linked to self-confidence. Building connections and establishing rapport with potential clients becomes easier when you feel good about your physical appearance, ultimately boosting your confidence in sales interactions.

5. Increased Energy Levels

Lack of energy can hinder your performance in any career, including sales.

Regular exercise enhances your overall energy levels, making tasks and responsibilities feel less burdensome. With increased vitality, you'll approach each sales opportunity enthusiastically and positively, elevating your confidence.

6. Quality Sleep

A good night's sleep is vital for your well-being and appearance.

Regular exercise promotes better sleep patterns, contributing to improved overall feelings of well-being. By ensuring you get enough rest, exercise helps you wake up refreshed, look your best, and exude confidence throughout the day.

7. Enhanced Productivity

Exercise acts as a mental reset button, allowing you to clear your mind and start afresh.

It opens doors to new possibilities and uncovers hidden potentials. As you challenge yourself physically, you'll discover newfound abilities, reinforcing your self-belief and boosting your confidence. Moreover, exercise helps you tackle problems with a fresh perspective, allowing you to excel in your sales career.

8. Anticipation and Motivation

Incorporating regular exercise into your routine gives you something to look forward to.

The anticipation alone can be a powerful confidence booster. As you witness the positive effects of exercise on your physical and mental well-being, you'll be motivated to continue, leading to a virtuous cycle of feeling better, looking better, and exuding confidence.

9. Improved Concentration

Exercise plays a vital role in honing your ability to concentrate.

By training yourself to focus during workouts, you'll develop the necessary skills to concentrate on tasks and responsibilities in your sales career. Enhanced concentration leads to greater achievements and recognition, fueling your confidence.

10. Sense of Control and Achievement

Regular exercise instills a sense of control and achievement.

It requires dedication, commitment, and self-care—all qualities that foster confidence. As you witness the positive impact of exercise on your physical and mental well-being, you'll experience an overwhelming sense of confidence and accomplishment.

By boosting your confidence levels, exercise will empower you to excel in your sales career, forge meaningful connections, and achieve incredible success.

Don't wait another day!

Start incorporating regular exercise into your routine to reap the many benefits it offers to your self-confidence.
